                                                   The Purpose of Learning
       Nowadays in China students are busy with their studies. They have to take the "entranceexams for college". All the students in high school are doing the same things-read the textbooks, do the exercises and know the immediate purpose is to get a good grade and obtainadmission to a decent college.
         When in college, the purpose of study alters slightly, students are aware of the fact thatthey are prepared for future career in college study. The change is not smooth, because incollege the tests are not extinct. There are still many tests for college students to pass. Thatpresses students to switch the modes between study for practicality and for tests.
        Luckily both modes do not necessarily conflict with each other. The purpose of tests isto examine the students' capability of mastering the knowledge, which is vital to theircareer, especially in a knowledge-based economy. Therefore, college students should notonly acquire knowledge to pass the tests, but also master specialized skills which aresignificant to their futurejobs.
